Nice work Mike!! :) And many thanks to you, Shaun. This was a great thread, and it was gratifying to see so many people reconnecting like this. I'm glad everyone is doing well!

Come on, you guys are clearly exaggerating. Can't all be that busy and productive...... can you? (Stephen frowns, scratches his head and thinks it's time to reappraise his life).
What have I been doing, well it's been difficult to fit any 3D in of late, the lion taming and brain surgery evening course take up all my spare time. Sorry, facetiousness aside, I'm just too lazy at the moment and I'm waiting for my creative juices to reappear, but it is great hearing all the stuff you guys are up to.

Re: what are people up to these days?
The cintiq is great for drawing and RSI, but not necessary for 3D, especially for animation. I find the stylus too sensitive and your hand gets in the way of your view. Probably quite good for ZBrush work though.

Especially for folks like me with shaky, heavy pressure hands. But I know a few people who love it for CG work. -D

Re: what are people up to these days?
(Really didn't mean to turn this into a Cintiq thread - sorry!)
I haven't tried it with 3D - I generally do that on my Linux desktop, and the tablet is attached to my Windows machine, so I can use it with Photoshop (not as easy to switch it back and forth between machines as my Intuos was!).
I've always found the mouse more precise than any of the tablets I've used - but over the last four days I've been spending all my spare time drawing on the Cintiq, and there's been a marked improvement in my accuracy (I can now draw fairly long, reasonably straight lines without resorting to the Shift key). I imagine that, with enough practice and constant use, I'll eventually find it just as precise as the mouse.
Regarding the stylus getting in the way, it's pretty easy to offset the cursor from the stylus point just by changing the angle of the stylus, to see what's "hidden". (If I twist my wrist so I'm holding the stylus overhand, the way some lefties hold pencils when they write, it offsets the cursor by about an eighth of an inch, which is quite adequate to see things.)

Hello all: As Den mentioned we had a hectic 2 weeks oi! We're also planning on doing logo designs as part of PenguinFrog. I also want to start doing more traditional animation so bought my self a new desk and supplies so no excuses.

Oh, I'm late to this party.. but still around! Good to hear from everybody! :)
I got to see both Dhar and Charlie graduate a few weeks ago!!! I'm so proud of them! And it was fantastic meeting Charles in person for the first time! :) I'm working on my demo reel, looking for a job, and continuing to take classes at AM. Right now I am in Polish/Portfolio trying to rescue my old 2 character dialog. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel for dental appointments! 6 more months and I'm free! and... I need to learn how to animate in C4D...

Are you moving to the Portland area? If so, drop me an email. I hope you like Beer. There's a reason Portland is known as Beervana. - Ken.

yep Portland area. But also looking as far down as Eugene. We're taking it one step at a time. Fix stuff then sell stuff then move stuff etc.
I don't drink much beer but I'd never turn one down ;-)

Re: what are people up to these days?
Oh gosh... where to start.. I just finished up a medical animation where I needed to slice an arm open with a scalpel. http://dustinproductions.com/medical.htm or the you tube version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OztTBwYpeOIHave been building a lot of terrains for my competitors. Going to start a big project soon where there is a collision between 2 tractor trailers. It might be a live action/camera matching project using HD footage. meeting is tomorrow. Experimenting with more real-time apps... Started running again (actually it's more like walk/run) 5 miles a day. Have lost 40 pounds and feel pretty good (except for the sore joints from walk/running 5 miles a day)....

Re: what are people up to these days?
Little late to the party here because I've been BUSY!:) Started my first blog to track progress on my CG project "NIGHTCALLERS", at http://nightcallers.net/arthropoda/ and been posting some of the backlog of decaling/animation tests I've been doing (feel free to stop by and leave a comment!); Closing in on finishing the last chapter of my print-only graphic novel "Sister Mary Dracula". Hope to have it finished by end of April or so; Working a full time job! And in my SPARE TIME...

Re: what are people up to these days?
I've been working with Mental Ray and iRay on Reality Server lately. Cool stuff.
And I've been granted the status of "SNR Police" on ompf forum. SNR is for "Signal to Noise Ratio". The forum is dedicated to real-time ray-tracing (and now real-time global illumination) and basically all rendering related discussions. But given the plethora of so called real-time path tracers demos and PR pitches, we have seen an increase of naive fan boys coming to promote products or wanabe products, proclaiming totally improbable numbers and features. Now, my new status enables me to edit those posts or plainly remove them... Oh! the feeling of power I have! Wuahahahahah!
